Our Stories
From the people we have helped
Lawrence was diagnosed with ADHD at age 7. Previous tutors had told me that he stood a very poor chance of getting through the 11+ because he was unsuitable for very challenging work.
The difference this time was that Mrs Bryson was an experienced SENCo and therefore equipped and experienced in spotting neurodivergence, harnessing the strengths of those students and bringing out the best in them.

Mrs. Bryson volunteered her time to accompany me to school open days across Croydon and Surrey. Through research and soul-searching, the decision was made to take up a place at Gravesend Grammar School.
Lawrence is currently in Year 9 and he is going from strength to strength. Lawrence has had the highest grades in Chemistry, was the school’s runner-up in the creative writing competition and has represented the school in hockey and cricket:

“Thank you Mrs Bryson, it all started with you when you saw Lawrence’s potential. I would not change a thing!”
Why is Special?
Our curriculum encompasses core subjects like mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies, forming a strong foundation for academic growth. However, we go beyond traditional disciplines. Cultural education plays a significant role, as students participate in bi-weekly cultural trips. In the past, we have explored the Horniman Museum, Croydon Museum, Talawa Theatre Company, and other enriching experiences that expose students to diverse cultures and perspectives.
